The NBCUniversal cabler has renewed the hacker drama for a third season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Mr. Robot has been praised as one of USA’s smartest shows, but has seen its viewership decline this season. Probably not as the award-winning series has not only pulled in high ratings but has accomplished what many new dramas have been unable to do: Mr. Robot’s delivering a compelling second season that has elevated the bar set by the show’s first season.
“The lobster fork from episode 1.8 was disturbing because of the choice”, Esmail said. “They know that we should end this in the right way and not just drag it out for the sake of everything else”.
“Personally, I think this is another weird, archaic judgment on television shows, where you have to bring them back at a certain schedule or you’re going to lose your audience”, Esmail said.
Mr. Robot was created by writer/director/executive producer Sam Esmail.
The series stars Golden Globe, Emmy and SAG® Award Nominee Malek, Golden Globe® Award Winner Slater, Portia Doubleday (“Her”), Carly Chaikin (“Suburgatory”), Martin Wallström (“Simple Simon”), Grace Gummer (“The Newsroom”), Michael Cristofer (“Ray Donovan”) and Stephanie Corneliussen (“Legends of Tomorrow”). Season two deals with the consequences of that attack.
Also helping Mr. Robot’s chances is the drama’s continued awards cache, which has been a boost for U.S. as it continues to push into darker, edgier fare. The show has been nominated for six Emmy Awards and has quickly become USA’s most talked about original show now airing and, arguably, of all time. That being said, given the popularity of Mr. Robot, if the show’s third season isn’t picked up by the USA Network, there’s a good chance that another network will. “Midway through its second season, MR. ROBOT continues to break new ground and open up new opportunities for the network”. Upcoming series include twice-delayed Shooter and Eyewitness. NBCUniversal Cable entertainment president Chris McCumber had the following to say about the renewal… “Sam and company just keep taking it to another level”.
