After Matthew Hayden gave them a good start, Mahela Jayawardene, who fell just short of his half-century, and Brendon McCullum, raised a blistering charge in the second half of the ROW XI innings, but were both dismissed in the 18th over – Dhoni’s catch getting rid of McCullum. The team is being coached by Gary Kirsten and managed by the great Indian cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar.

Chief Executive of Surrey County Cricket Club, Richard Gould, thanked everyone, who took part in the fundraiser event. An exciting match was played out on Thursday night between the “Help for Heroes XI” and “Rest of the World XI”.

“Having been out of the game for a couple of years, you miss the dressing room, the crowd, the thrill of competing”.

“This was a fantastic end of season party, attended by a galaxy of cricketing stars and 20,000 happy cricket fans”, he said.

“We wanted to win that game and we did, which was very pleasing”.
