MSF to evacuate staff from Yemen hospitals after air strike

MSF is one of handful of global medical aid groups operating on the ground in Yemen where a 16-month civil war between a coalition and a militia has killed more than 6,500 people and brought the country close to starvation.

It also accused all sides in Yemen’s war of “indiscriminate attacks without any respect for civilians”.

The move comes as the Saudi monarchs and their allies in Washington are faced with growing pressure from the worldwide community to stop the military campaign which, according to local sources, has killed about 10,000 people, majority civilians. Pentagon officials said the strike was a “direct result of human error”. It consisted of 45 people at its peak, now there are reportedly less than five people left. The U.N., he added, would carry out a joint review with Saudi Arabia of the coalition’s conduct before making a final decision on whether to put them back on the list. “At no point did USA military personnel provide direct or implicit approval of target selection or prosecution”.

He said the USA advice is always in accordance with global law and the best way to avoid civilian casualties.

The United States is complicit in this carnage.

That was the fourth and deadliest attack yet on an MSF facility during the war, the charity said. “The American people I know are kind, compassionate – and just good people”.

“I … had to consider the very real prospect that millions of other children would suffer grievously if, as was suggested to me, countries would defund many United Nations programs”, he said in defence of his decision to take the kingdom off the list.

Protesters at a massive rally in Sanaa on Saturday looked up to see fighter jets from the Saudi-led Coalition overhead.

As the rally was underway, three air strikes targeted the presidential compound located 600 metres away from the square without causing casualties, residents told Reuters. Yemeni Twitter was active with anti-Saudi – and anti-American – sentiment.

Government forces and the Saudi-led coalition also have fought against the Al Qaeda branch in Yemen (AQAP) and ISIS, both of which are anti-government Sunni terror groups. Her Twitter network includes people in every part of Yemen. While peace talks between a Yemeni Government delegation and a delegation of the General People’s Congress and Ansar Allah continued, serious violations have occurred in Marib, al Jawf, Taiz and in the border areas with Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi-led coalition has come under criticism over air strikes but has issued repeated assurances that it uses highly accurate laser and GPS-guided weapons and verifies targets many times to ensure civilian casualties are avoided. “We might not be able to stop the internal war (s)”, she writes.

“We think that governments of other countries have fuelled this violence by repeatedly authorising arms transfers to South Sudan”, said Geoffrey Duke, head of South Sudan Action Network on Small Arms.
