MSU’s penalties bring back memories of loss to Notre Dame

Head Coach Mark Dantonio looks to silence the critics and get a very convincing win under the lights this Saturday night.

“Yeah, yeah, they have”, Dantonio said with a coy smile, not naming any names. “It’s been a question throughout the process, you know”.

-WR Equanimous St. Brown had a career-high 49-yard catch on the final play of the opening quarter and went on to register single game highs of six catches and 85 yards. “So there’s not a lot to compare to that”.

The most pressing need here is to get Coleman ready to play every week, especially given the up-in-the-air status of junior Nick Watkins, who could miss the entire season after breaking his arm during spring practice in April. Michigan State will be looking to end that losing streak and win in South Bend for the first time since 2007. We were using draw plays, screens. “We’ll get some guys, first of all, healthy”. “We talked about getting the next one at halftime and they did just that”. So that’s a positive.

While there might be a spilt within the family, Bullough knows where his family will be when the game gets started. We’re gaining a little bit more confidence at the quarterback position, seeing what he can do.”I thought Corey Holmes ran a great route on third and 15, and we got him the ball to the wide field”. “It’s a rivalry game for us”. When it comes to the playoff picture, things should get interesting in Week 3. “So there’s still growth that’s going to happen with this football team as we evolve”. It was more like an additional week of preseason camp.

Asked about the Irish offense committing just one turnover through two games, Kelly said jokingly, “We’ve probably coached it (ball security) better”.

If the Spartans want to win this game, they will need to limit the Irish’s offense and not allow the 444 yards of offense they are averaging. So keeps drives alive. But then I had some friends sitting down low and they said they were freezing because of the wind. Throw in three personal fouls, and the Spartans gave away a lot of yards in a game they were expected to win handily.

It leaves plenty to clean up as Michigan State tries to end a three-game skid against Notre Dame, though this is the first time the teams have met since 2013. It had to be a devastating injury for the senior OH native, but the Spartans coaching staff is doing their best to make sure he remains in high spirits. Meanwhile, the Fighting Irish have taken on Texas and the Nevada Wolf Pack. They’re just smart quarterbacks. Now they take on 12th ranked Michigan State. Crawford’s injury thrust sophomore Nick Coleman back into a starting role at outside corner, where he struggled against Texas, and will push freshmen Donte Vaughn (outside corner) and Julian Love (nickel) onto the field more often as well. The Irish have an chance to save their season (and perhaps the direction of the program) on Saturday against the Spartans. MIchigan State has Scott, but O’Connor needs to prove he can guide the Spartans’ unit.

Each time the Irish fall short of expectations, the jokes start. He’ll be counted on to not only mentor a large group of young wideouts, but provide his share of production. That was before they had a lackluster performance against Furman in the opener. He had three pass breakups but also was flagged twice for pass interference.

Crawford’s injury is another hit to an already depleted Notre Dame secondary.
