Coaches picked the Spartans to finish third in the preseason Big Ten poll, which was released ahead of the league’s annual media day in Chicago.

Ohio State’s Kelsey Mitchell was tabbed the preseason Big Ten player of the year by the coaches and media. Other Boilermakers mentioned in the voting included Hammons (received votes for All-Big Ten), Rapheal Davis (received vote for Most Underrated Player) and Swanigan (received vote for Big Ten’s top 2016 National Basketball Association draft pick). Teammate Ameryst Alston was also an All-Big Ten selection. Hammons were the other three to claim a unanimous spot on the team.

The University of Wisconsin will open its season November. 8 with an exhibition game against Minnesota State.
