MTV star dies in skydiving accident during opening of golf show
Action-sports athlete, ski BASE jumping pioneer and Nitro Circus cast member Erik Roner died in a skydiving accident Monday morning near Squaw Valley ski resort.

During the performance, he was caught in a tree while trying to land, becoming entangled high above the ground. “Rescue personnel were able to remove the skydiver from the tree; however, he was pronounced deceased at the scene”. All the other skydivers landed safely, he said.
The investigation is continuing and the FAA has been notified.
Roner was known for being part of the Nitro Circus crew on MTV and was also an avid and accomplished skier.
In addition to his presence on Nitro Circus, Roder was part of the Outside Television family as the host of the network’s Locals series.
In his interview with the Sun, Tuscany spoke candidly about Roner’s life as an action-sports star – but more importantly, as a father and husband. “I don’t know what happened from there”. “We are still trying to process this tragedy”, said Rob Faris, Senior Vice President of Programming and Production at Outside Television. Apparently something went wrong during the stunt and Roner hit a tree on his way down – obviously the injuries he sustained were fatal.
Roner is survived by his wife, Annika, and two young children.
“The Squaw Valley Institute is mourning Erik’s loss, and their deepest sympathies are with his family and friends at this hard time”, according to a statement from the nonprofit.
Roner’s death comes four months after world-famous wingsuit flyer Dean Potter and fellow adventurer Graham Hunt fatally crashed after the pair leaped from Taft Point, 3,500-feet above Yosemite Valley, attempting to clear a V-shaped notch in a ridgeline.

Roner had been a professional skier and BASE jumper for the last six years, according to his profile for the MTV program.
