“This is a great opportunity and we’re very happy to qualify for the WTA Finals in Singapore”, said Chan Yung-Jan.

Bacsinszky will take a few form of consolation as she enters the top-10 for the first time after reaching the final here, a remarkable achievement considering that the Swiss 26-year-old was working in a hotel two and a half years ago as she considered giving up the sport.

The Pole next faces fifth seed Garbine Muguruza Blanco of Spain, after she beat America’s Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-1, 7-5. She would not win another game as Bacsinszky raced to close affairs in two hours and 20 minutes.

Bacsinszky was having arguably the best tournament of her career. “It’s going to be a battle out there”, she said.

The 22-year-old, who was beaten in the final of last week’s Wuhan Open by Venus Williams, revealed her delight at securing her maiden title of the season and vowed to come back and defend her crown at the event in 12 months’ time.
