Muhammad Ali died of septic shock; memorial Friday with special eulogies

He says Ali died of septic shock “due to unspecified natural causes”.

Elsewhere in Canada Muhammad Ali’s death was marked with a traditional 10-bell salute in boxing rings in Montreal and Victoria Saturday night. Despite the title, Holmes remained in Ali’s shadow and he got a chance to step into his own light when he signed to fight Ali in 1980.

Ali employed the “rope-a-dope”, in which he allowed Foreman to tire himself out as Ali absorbed punch after punch, before he claimed the bout in Zaire – now known as the Democratic Republic of the Congo – with a knockout. Us Weekly reports that the list of people who will deliver eulogies has also been announced via a spokesperson for the Ali family.

Johnny Grant, chairman of the Walk of Fame committee, said at the time: “Muhammad Ali is one of the most famous showmen in the world”. My mother and father were sweet, good people, and he came from good stock. “He was a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful man, he will be missed”. “And then Ali said, ‘If you love me, why did you kick my [butt]?'” When I fought Ali I was happy but it made me unhappy.

But he said Ali also felt he was “invincible” and didn’t listen when encouraged to retire earlier than he did. “He was a great and true ambassador of Islam, who has inspired Muslim youth around the world”.

He wrote: “Forever grateful for everything you have ever gave me”.

There is strong reaction from the Bay Area boxing community and beyond to the death of “The Greatest”.

‘As a man who never looked down on those who looked up to him, and who helped as many people as he could. “He stood with King and Mandela; stood up when it was hard; spoke out when others wouldn’t”.

Ali had suffered from Parkinson’s for three decades, the extent of his illness brought to the world stage when he trembled badly while lighting the Olympic torch in 1996 in Atlanta.

So while Ali’s proof of God in this interview includes a lot of things that can be scientifically explained (how clothes, glass, the Earth and the Moon were created, for example), the impetus for his beliefs and application of them are indeed quite inspiring.
