Mullen confident Prescott will be prepared for Cowboys

Instead, the Cowboys found themselves looking for their quarterback of the future in former Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott.

Even though Prescott has shined in the preseason (he’s thrown five touchdowns and ran for two more in three games), ESPN’s Bill Barnwell thinks Cowboys fans should be anxious. “I’m not shocked that he’s played this well”.

“It’s a different feel around here this time”, Jones said, referencing the fact that his Cowboys are 1-13 over the last three seasons in games started by people not named Romo.

Of course those impressive numbers have come against the opponents’ backups. The Cowboys have a bye in Week Seven, so Romo would miss seven games with a minimum stay on IR. So maybe those comparisons to McNabb are a bit premature.

“I think the biggest thing for all of us is focus on doing our jobs”, Garrett said.

Jim O’Neil, the 49ers defensive coordinator, said he got more out of dual scrimmages with Denver and Houston than exhibition games.

“So excited to have him step into that role in Tony’s absence and excited to really just focus our attention on today and try to get better today, Sunday”.

Jones says he considers Romo’s latest setback a “freak injury”, and is convinced the 36-year-old signal caller will return this season and play at a high level.

“I didn’t even see him until after I celebrated, and I saw him still on the ground”.

“We’re certainly getting our hands around it, ” executive vice president Stephen Jones said.

“Again, we’ll take his situation day by day like we do with every guy on our team and every injury that we have”.

When Romo went down during a week two win over the Eagles last season, hopelessness rippled through the team and Cowboys fans. But, if it were to happen, I think the coaching staff would still turn to Romo. The most recent prognosis is that he is expected to miss six to ten weeks.

After opening the 2016 preseason in Los Angeles, the Dallas Cowboys return to Arlington, Texas for their preseason home opener against the Miami Dolphins.

“I like how poised he is”, Elliott said, via the Dallas Morning News. “We’ve got a chance to develop that energy, that asset so to speak with Dak”.

Even after the game, from the owner on down, the Dallas Cowboys were in lockstep in downplaying the severity of Romo’s injury.

The Cleveland Browns released Davis on Monday as part of their roster cut downs, and the Cowboys did not waste any time scheduling him for a workout. If he can play like he has in the preseason – admittedly, teams run less complex schemes and don’t play their starters as long before the regular season starts – that should be doable.
