Mullen: Dak will be ready for moment with Cowboys

It was later announced that he suffered a broken bone in his back.

Rookie fourth-round draft pick Dak Prescott will take over until Romo returns.

Rookie Dak Prescott will most likely start in the season opener September 11.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo could be out anywhere from 4 to 10 weeks, according to president and general manager Jerry Jones. He has moved the Cowboys offense every time he’s led a drive and established connections with Dez Bryant and Brice Butler, who looks like he might be developing into the speedy deep threat that Bryant needs to thrive. Players are preparing as if Romo could miss up to 10 weeks with a fracture in his back.

Surely, things will settle down a bit once Prescott begins the regular season. He has looked fantastic during the preseason putting up almost flawless numbers.

Romo is unlikely to be ready for Week 1 against the rival Giants, thrusting the expected No. 2 quarterback to take over starting the role for the incumbent. The chances of that happening are not very good. “We’ll be needing to make that decision obviously sometime later in the weekend”. With numerous spots already locked and decided, there are still those who need a good showing this final week of the preseason to impress the coaching staff of the Cowboys to stay on the roster for the time being. That’s because it means putting the fate of their team’s season in the hands of a rookie quarterback. Absolutely. Anything can happen in the NFL. Of course he comes across as a hater to many people because it is well known by everyone that watches First Take that Steven A Smith is not too fond of the Cowboys.

“I think the great thing in a guy like Dak is, he’s going to handle the moment well”, Mullen said. Putting him on injured reserve would free up a roster spot and they could re-call him to the active roster when he’s healthy.

I believe the Cowboys would be fine with a 3-3 record with Romo returning for the next game.

However, second-year quarterback Jameill Showers has been impressive as well. He reminds me of a bigger version of Russell Wilson with his ability to run and throw the ball. Secondly, an owner who’s proven time and again he’ll do anything to win is unlikely to pull Prescott if he and the Cowboys are on a roll.
