Muller is priceless for Bayern, says captain Lahm

Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm insists Thomas Muller is “priceless” to the German champions in the wake of speculation linking him with Manchester United.

United are keen on getting Muller and have tabled an audacious €85 million bid as they look to secure a marquee signing before the close of the transfer season.

“Thomas is one of those role models you can’t just attach a price tag to”, he told Munchner Merkur.

Bayern have been consistent in turning down all approaches for one of their key players, and have insisted that they will not sell anyone else to United after Bastian Schweinsteiger moved to Manchester.

“There shouldn’t be a concern about Bayern’s identity”, he added.

Lahm, however, has underlined Muller’s importance to Bayern and does not believe the 25-year-old will be moved on. While Muller is a world-class footballer, he plays more as a secondary striker than an out-and-out No.9. “Look at the team: Thomas Müller, Holger Badstuber, David Alaba, me – all from the youth team”.

We have Manuel Neuer, Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, who have been here so long that their hearts practically beat red.

But the Red Devils have had no luck and it does not appear their fortunes will improve as Sammer says the Bavarians need all the players at their disposal for the season ahead.

Over the past 12 months, there have been discussions over Bayern’s direction under current coach Pep Guardiola.
