Multiple Deaths After Car Collides Head On With Tractor Trailer

Officials in Lehigh County said the crash happened in Upper Macungie Township on Route 222 near the intersection with Route 100 at about 4 p.m. Wednesday.

All five people in the auto were pronounced dead. Both vehicles ignited, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. 222 causing a head-on collision, police said. Two people were ejected and landed in the roadway. The Lehigh County Coroner says because of the severity of the injuries, forensic testing will be needed to identify the victims.

Police have not released the identifies of the five victims or where they worked. An investigation revealed the victims were a group of co-workers who were commuting together on their way home from work in Upper Macungie Township.

Eckrote was treated for minor injuries.
