KXAN spoke with Cody, who didn’t want his last name used, who was out celebrating a friend’s 21st birthday when his group heard gunshots at 6th and San Jacinto streets. The official Twitter handle of the Austin- Travis county EMS also tweeted about the death of a person, a female individual believed to be in her 30s.

Local media reported at least one person had died in the incident, which is still ongoing. “We had one individual who was initially noted as a person of interest, however that person’s status at this point is undetermined”. Police got a call about a disturbance at a parking garage just blocks away from the first incident. Three were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, Manley said.

Officials say there have been separate shooting incidents in downtown Austin and there are multiple victims. Witnesses at the scene described the gunman as either a light-skinned black man or a Hispanic man in his 20s; Clothing descriptions of the suspect have varied, according to APD.

Mr Manley added: “It was a very chaotic scene”. Authorities in the area are asking anyone with videos of the incidents to send them to police.

Five people were shot early Sunday along Sixth Street – including one fatally wounded – along Sixth Street, and a suspect is still at large, police said. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after onlookers, in a bold move, worked to wrestle the firearm from the shooter, and were able to successfully disarm him.
