The body of her 49-year-old mother was found about 1.5 kilometres away in Toowong about 5:30am.

Queensland Police Detective Acting Superintendent Geoff Sheldon said the man hadn’t been charged and had been helping officers “greatly” throughout the day.

The father of a young girl found dead at a Brisbane apartment is in custody assisting police with their investigation.

A cleaner of the unit where the young girl’s body was found described the youngster as “polite” and “beautiful”. “We have a family that has been literally decimated”, Supt Sheldon said. It’s an appalling tragedy that two members of this family are now deceased, ‘ he said.

Another child, an eight-year-old girl, is unharmed.

He said the family appeared to be an average suburban unit before Tuesday’s tragic events.

He said police were called there after concerns were raised with them earlier on Monday evening.

Detectives are speaking with the girl’s father to determine what went on in the lead up to her death and to investigate who is responsible.

“He’s horrendously upset and he’s with us at the moment trying to explain what’s gone on in relation to the whole night’s affairs”, Sheldon said.
