Mum kills four-day-old son by putting him in refrigerator

Authorities said Angela Blackwell, 27, was arrested Monday on a charge of homicide by child abuse.

Deputies responded to Chester Regional Medical Center on February 27 after the child was brought in by EMS unresponsive, according to a sheriff’s report. After about three hours Blackwell removed the infant and sought medical help.

The boy’s father, who is not charged in connection to his death, has a lengthy arrest record. Corrections Department officials say Lewis also served more than two years in prison after another petit larceny conviction and subsequent probation violation. Jeffery Paul Lewis, 35, has theft convictions in SC dating back to 2005 and served more than two years in prison after a probation violation, Corrections Department spokeswoman Stephanie Givens said.

A SC woman is accused of putting her newborn son in the refrigerator at her Chester home for three hours, authorities said. She is charged with murder/ homicide by child abuse, according to jail tracker.

The incident happened on February 27.

Sprouse said he didn’t know if Blackwell had an attorney.

According to the county coroner, the child died the same day of hypothermia.

State Law Enforcement Division spokesman Thom Berry said the agency’s special unit on child deaths has worked on the case.
