A photo of Bajorat’s body can be seen in a message tweeted by the Daily Mail, but sensitive readers are warned that the image is graphic in nature.

The body of a German adventurer has been discovered inside his abandoned yacht mummified after years at sea.

Christopher Rivas y Escarten, 23, told police that when he saw the decomposing man inside, he and his friends dragged the yacht to the municipality of Barobo, Surigao del Sur.

A forensic criminologist told Germany’s BILD newspaper that the way Bajorat was sitting suggested he may have died from a heart attack. Bajorat reportedly split from his wife, with whom he sailed, in 2008. She frequently traveled with the explorer prior to their breakup.

Although much of the main cabin was at least partially underwater, investigators were able to find some photo albums, clothes and canned food items.

It is not year clear when he died, but no one has reported seeing him since 2009. Local police spokesperson Goldie Lou Siega said: “We have no evidence of a second person aboard and no weapon was found on the yacht”.

The investigation found no obvious signs of violence and could not determine the cause of death.

This man said: “He was a very experienced sailor”.

Bajorat was identified by papers on board.

According to News.com.au, Dieter went on to say he believes the mast broke after Bajorat was already dead.

As authorities tried to put together the circumstances of Bajorat’s death, details of his private life have started to emerge, according to The Sun.

The German embassy in Manila has not commented on the reports.
