German police Friday, January 1, lifted an alert of an imminent attack in Munich, hours after two key train stations were evacuated over fears that a New Year suicide bomb assault was being planned.
Just over an hour before the celebrations began in Munich, police ordered the evacuation of the city’s main rail station and another station in the west of the city after being tipped off about a possible “terror attack”.
They said they had received a “very concrete tip” around 7:40 p.m. from intelligence sources in France and the United States indicating that militants from Iraq and Syria were planning to carry out attacks.
Munich police chief Hubertus Andrae said it was unclear whether the suspects are still in the city or even in Germany.
A police spokeswoman said the tip-off about a planned IS suicide bombing had come from the French secret service.
