The lone killer, an 18-year-old German-Iranian named in reports as Ali Sonboly, is thought to have attempted to lure victims to a McDonald’s opposite the mall with a fake Facebook profile promising free food.

Being originally from Iran, meaning a Shia Muslim, the 18-year-old who perpetrated the violence is extremely unlikely to have been an adherent of Daesh, a fundamentalist Sunni outfit of the Tafriki variety and at war with the Shias.
Soraya reported that police said the suspect killed himself.
The gunman was born and brought up in the Munich area and had spent time in psychiatric care, and there was no evidence to suggest he had had an accomplice, Andrae said. Investigators were still working to confirm that, he said. Hubertus Andrae, the head of Munich police department, added that there was no indication of any connection with Islamic State.
Two of those killed were 13, three were 14, one was 17, another 19, the remaining two were 20 and 45. Restaurants in the city closed for security reasons, often with people still hiding inside.
Another video showed first responders loading the wounded onto stretchers outside the mall as they walked past one victim simply covered with a sheet.
He said Europe was also debating new weapons guidelines that were up for discussion.
The attack left 27 people wounded, 10 of them with serious injuries, Andrae said.
People mourn behind flower tributes near the Olympia shopping center where a shooting took place leaving nine people dead the day before, in Munich, Germany, Saturday, July 23, 2016.
Authorities, initially fearing three gunmen were on the loose, mounted a massive operation involving 3,200 security personnel, and terrified shoppers sought safety in strangers’ homes.
Zabergja, who is a police officer, described his son’s last moments, as told to him by his friend that was with him when he was shot. He used a Glock 9mm with a serial number that was illegally removed and carried a backpack with about 300 bullets inside.
“There was material found in the apartment of the suspect that showed a particular interest in shooting sprees”, said Thomas de Maiziere, Germany’s interior minister. “We do not have any indications that would lead to global terrorism”.
Thaci, who called it a terrorist attack, says he considered the two young girls and a man as “heroes in the war for the joint freedom and values in Europe”.
As police continued to search for a motive for the killing, German Chancellor Angela Merkel cut short a vacation to convene an emergency security meeting Saturday before addressing the nation. “We share your grief”. “We suffer with you”.
“We live together in a liberal society”.
She said the whole of Germany is “mourning with heavy hearts” and suffering alongside the families who lost loved ones. But witnesses said he shouted anti-foreigner slurs as he pulled the trigger.
He said: “The guy is disturbed mentally and just wants attention”. The gunman, dressed in black, wearing his red rucksack, can be heard shouting: “Because of you I was bullied for seven years. and now I have to buy a gun to shoot you”. The children were sitting to eat.
Could you please let me know who took this decision and when, and why?
But, she says, she trusts that will pass.
Shots were reported fired from about 5.50PM CEST on Friday, at the McDonald’s restaurant and in the mall, in Munich’s northern Moosach neighbourhood.
He was an admirer of the 17-year-old who went on the rampage in the 2009 Stuttgart shooting before turning the gun on himself, the source added. He tried to reassure him as he pressed on his gunshot wounds to stop the bleeding. He was weird. He didn’t look at me.
Lynn Stein, who works in the mall, described a chaotic scene when gunfire erupted.
Andrae of the Munich police said the teenager had been obsessed with books and articles about mass killings “linked to maniacs”. When it was very quiet we got up and saw five people.
