Murder charges filed in death of 9-year-old in Chicago

Commissioner McCarthy believes 9-year-old Lee’s death was related to his father’s gang affiliations. He declared, “That gang just signed its own death warrant”.

McCarthy said police think at least two killings and a number of other retaliatory shootings in the past three months led to the targeting of Tyshawn because of his father’s gang ties.

Corey Morgan was charged with first-degree murder, according to Cook County state’s attorney’s office spokeswoman Sally Daly.

The prosecutors have asked that Morgan be granted a life sentence, court documents show. “Curd said. “… This is just – I’m speechless to what is going on right now”. “I know my baby’s in a better place”.

According to the charges, Morgan and the two other suspects were members and known shooters of the BBG (Bang Bang Gang)/Terror Dome faction of the Black P Stones faction.

Investigators allege Morgan was looking for targets after an October 13 shooting that killed his brother and injured his mother while they were in a auto. Morgan was so enraged he threatened to shoot “grandmas, mamas, kids and all” in retaliation. It is unclear if that suspect is Dwight Boone-Doty, who was arrested with Morgan earlier this month when the two men were found in Oak Lawn, Ill., with loaded.40-caliber semi-automatic handguns. McCarthy didn’t name one, who is in custody on an unrelated charge; the other, Kevin Edwards, is at large. He also expressed frustration with police, saying investigators seemed more interested in him than in finding who shot Tyshawn.

Others in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood wondered why it took the murder of a nine year old to get this kind of police response to gang feuds.

Authorities have said Tyshawn was lured from a park into an alley near his grandmother’s house in the 8000 block of South Damen.

“This murder was committed in a cold, calculated and premeditated manner”, Canellis said.

Morgan’s lawyer denies that his client was involved in the shooting.

The man, Corey Morgan, 27, is one of “at least three” suspects allegedly involved in the case, Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said Friday.

“We’re going to catch him”, said Chicago Police Supt.

“This is a crime that shook our city”.

The investigating officer, Sergeant William Svilar, said residents in the local community helped detectives despite fear of retaliation.

“They’re going to be obliterated”, he added.
