According to the Tehama County DA, Gregg Cohen, Edwin Lara waived extradition and was transported to Siskiyou County Wednesday night. He is due to appear in court in Yreka, Cal. today.
On Tuesday, authorities said they arrested 31-year-old Edwin Lara and 19-year-old Aundrea Elizabeth Maes, both from OR, following a violent crime spree in Yreka, California.
A body that resembles the 23-year-old Sawyer was found later but has not yet been positively identified.
Kaylee Sawyer, 23-years-old, went missing in Bend, Oregon, early Sunday morning.
According to Bend Police, Lara is married to Isabel Ponce-Lara, who was recently hired as a police officer for the Bend Police Department. A medical examiner would confirm the identity, he said.
Detectives with Redmond Police Department, Bend Police Department, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Sunriver Police Department, Black Butte Police Department, the Oregon State Police, the Oregon State Police Crime Lab and the Deschutes County District Attorney’s Office are involved with the investigation.
He cited an order from Deschutes County Circuit Court Judge Alta Brady prohibiting prosecutors, defense attorneys and police from speaking publicly about it.
Blunt force trauma is caused by applying force to a body by an object or instrument, or when a body strikes a surface such as the ground or a wall, according to the Dictionary of Modern Medicine.
Sawyer, described as having blonde hair and blue-green eyes, was last seen around 1am on Sunday near her apartment, located near Central Oregon Community College where Lara worked as a campus security guard.
Lara told his wife that some of the victim’s belongings were stashed inside their shed.

Police in California pursued a man and a woman from OR on Interstate 5 at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour (160.93 kph) Tuesday and arrested them for allegedly kidnapping a woman and her two sons and shooting and critically wounding a man in a separate incident. That person was upgraded to stable condition Tuesday evening, but Yreka Police could not be reached for updated information Wednesday or Thursday. We will still be launching a volunteer-based search to find her and bring her home. He said he discussed the matter with Andrus. “Now we enter the phase on deciding where he’ll be tried first”.
The Bend Bulletin reports that Lara has no criminal record in Oregon.
Depending on whether Lara agrees to be transported or requests an extradition hearing in California, he could be back in or in a matter of days or toward the end of next month.
Lara, a part-time campus public safety officer at the community college, was listed as a person of interest.

Court documents released Tuesday show Ponce-Lara went into the station to talk to officers.
