NURSE JACKIE’s Edie Falco held her title as the most nominated actor in SAG Awards history with her 22nd nomination this morning for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her role as “Jackie Peyton” on the series’ seventh and final season.
The coveted Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture will be a fight between “Beasts of No Nation”, “The Big Short”, “Spotlight,” “Straight Outta Compton” and “Trumbo“.
Eddie Redmayne’s hopes of winning a best actor Oscar two years in a row received a boost today when he was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award.
“Trumbo“, a biopic about a blacklisted 1940s screenwriter, scored the most nominations for the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards announced Wednesday, with nods in three categories including best ensemble cast. Rather, the group went with Sarah Silverman in the best actress category, for her portrayal of a woman with depression in the tiny Sundance debut I Smile Back, and Helen Mirren for Woman in Gold. Mirren was also nominated for a supporting performance for “Trumbo“.
Eddie will face fierce competition from Bryan Cranston (“Trumbo“), Johnny Depp (“Black Mass“), Leonardo DiCaprio (“The Revenant“) and Michael Fassbender (“Steve Jobs”). The SAG nominees are chosen by new panels each year, one panel for television and one for film, comprised of members randomly selected from the Screen Actors Guild.
In a year when Hollywood’s lack of diversity has become of critical concern following last Oscar’s all-white acting slate, the individual performance nominees for movies remained largely monochromatic, save for Elba’s supporting nominations. The ceremony airs live from Los Angeles on TNT and TBS at 8 ET/5 PT Jan. 30.

The period drama will compete against Game of Thrones, Homeland, House of Cards and Mad Men for the award.
