Murphy: We’ll see if Eagles or Browns were right about Wentz

The Intelligencer’s Ed Kracz and a host of other Eagles writers cover each of the teams’ National Football League games during the season, provide frequent news and video reports on players leading up to each week’s games and analysis of the team’s performance following each game during the season.

WIN-WIN: The Browns own Philadelphia’s first-round pick in 2017 as part of the trade for No. 2, so beating the Eagles is a double win because they want them to finish as low as possible in the standings.

This move isn’t all that shocking by Pederson and the Eagles.

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson addressed the notion raised by Cleveland Browns defensive end Carl Nassib this week that quarterback Carson Wentz has a slow release. “I am already excited, and I am trying to control it and focus this week. I’m really confident in myself and confident in my team”. “We spent a lot of time with him like everybody that has drafted quarterbacks in the National Football League”.

Overall, “I think they’re going to keep things basic for him, but I’m just going to go out there and play as fast as I can and pressure him as much as I can, make him uncomfortable“.

It should be noted that the Browns will start Robert Griffin III on Sunday. That’s sound strategy for a rebuilding team. However, if there is one franchise that should have no right to criticize another’s quarterback situation, it’s probably the Browns. Pederson was asked how the coaching staff can tell whether he’s absorbing the game plan being installed for Week 1 against Cleveland.

“He pays attention to detail”, said Pederson. “Just felt real comfortable.so everybody’s going to have their opinion obviously, that’s just the way this business is, but we’re very comfortable with Carson and the direction he’s headed”.

When Wentz was being disturbed with that phone call in Jersey, Daniel’s phone was not ringing.

I have said all along and he is such a sharp guy.

“I don’t think that’s a factor at all”, Pederson said.

At the moment, Chase Daniel is penciled in as the team’s starting quarterback, but ESPN NFL Insider Adam Caplan is reporting the team plans on starting Wentz Week 1 if he’s healthy.

Signed by Miami in July, Foster rushed for only 5 yards on seven carries in the preseason, but beat out Jay Ajayi for the starting job. Of the last 11 quarterbacks drafted in the top three, nine of them started Week 1 of their rookie seasons. As far as the signal caller goes they have made a decision to go with the rookie Carson Wentz but the backfield will be run by a six-year vet, Ryan Matthews.

“Without a doubt I’ll be excited”, Wentz said. “If anything it just helps me a little more, just to get that fire going and help the young buck come Sunday”. It probably should go without saying that there’s a reason this team only won three games previous year, hasn’t produced a record of.500 or better since 2007 and finished with greater than five victories in a season just once during that span. There is a full commitment to the former North Dakota State star, and Pederson said the stage is not too big for Wentz.

The Eagles will need him to more than double that production as his plays will increase this year. “It doesn’t matter where you come from, if you can play, you can play”. The second-best quarterback, according to the experts, was this kid, Carson Wentz. “So I don’t really have the need for extra motivation going into this one”.
