Murray: Blue Jays acquire Francisco Liriano from Pirates
Sanchez, 24, has been a revelation for the Blue Jays since joining the rotation this season. In this scenario, the Pirates have gained nothing by having the foresight to view Nicasio as an undervalued asset, because they paid him for his best-case-scenario and assumed all the risk. “We’re still working through the timing but this (trade) allows us to do that”.

Will moving Sanchez to bullpen disrupt the Jays?
Nova was acquired for two players to be named while Hutchison comes to Pittsburgh for veteran left-hander Francisco Liriano, minor league catcher Reese McGuire and minor league outfielder Harold Ramirez.
The Blue Jays are 8-3 in their last 11 during game 2 of a series and 6-15 in Dickeys last 21 starts. Liriano is under contract at $13 million this season and next. After dominating in three seasons with Pittsburgh, Liriano has fallen completely off the map this season. Despite a much higher walk rate, Liriano is throwing more pitches inside the strike zone compared to previous seasons, an encouraging sign that his numbers may return to a more reasonable level.
“The fact he’s been there before in a playoff chase, pitched in a major playoff game, and still has very good stuff. We’re hopeful that if we get him back to just close to where he was then it’s better than our alternative”. Atkins says the relation was more of an added bonus than a primary factor in making the deal.
“I like it; I think we’re better”, said Russell Martin.
Where all these moves will eventually take the Pirates remains to be seen but Huntington deserves the benefit of the doubt after what he has accomplished in almost nine years on the job.
“I’ve been playing behind Feldman a lot, and obviously in order to make plays for your pitchers, you’ve got to know what they throw and how they throw it and what you as a hitter should do with it”, Correa said.
Contending teams typically give up prospects at the deadline, so it was a surprise to see the Blue Jays add two of the Pirates’ top minor leaguers in the Liriano trade. Scott Feldman (L) joins the Jays from the Huston Astros while Mike Bolsinger comes over from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Since his move to the bullpen at the end of April, the Hawaii native has recorded a 2.41 ERA over 37.1 innings.
With the departure of Jesse Chavez, Feldman will fill the same role and the Blue Jays hope he can continue to perform as well as he has in Houston this season. He now has a 4.74 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP on the season.
“We feel like we did that with the acquisition cost, also bringing young talent into our system that we didn’t plan on as a focus, but we were opportunistic when it presented itself”.

Guyer batted just. 241 with seven homers and 18 RBIs in 63 games with Tampa Bay this season, although the 30-year-old feasted on left-handed pitching. The Astros recalled RHP Joe Musgrove from Triple-A Fresno, where he was 5-3 with a 3.81 ERA in 10 starts…. He posted a 11-13 record in 2014 with a 4.48 ERA and nearly a strikeout per inning, but the right-hander has been unable to duplicate his success since. R.A. Dickey gets the nod, and he’s 7-12 with a 4.66 ERA and 95 strikeouts this season.
