Murray, Djokovic Close In On US Open Final Duel
Novak Djokovic, the U.S. Open’s No. 1 seed, finally got to play a complete match, beating Britain’s Kyle Edmund, 6-2, 6-2, 6-4, in a match that ended just after midnight Monday.

Edmund was playing in the fourth round of a grand slam for the first time but Djokovic taught the youngster a lesson with a 6-2 6-1 6-4 victory.
Ninth seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga faces America’s Jack Sock, who beat 2014 champion Marin Cilic, while Gael Monfils takes on Cypriot veteran Marcos Baghdatis. Mikhail Youzny, his third round opponent, retired after six games with a hamstring strain. The world number 84 ripped a backhand cross court victor to move to break point but could not convert that chance or a second as the defending champion held for 2-0. In the victory, Tsonga won 83 percent of his first serve points and 44 percent of his second serve points.
Defeat for Nadal means that this year marks the first since 2004 that the 30-year-old has failed to reach a Grand Slam quarter-final. Edmund then broke Djokovic to go up a break in the third set.
Pouille, aged 22, pulled off one of the biggest surprises of the tournament when he beat Rafael Nadal 6-1, 2-6, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6.
“I need to get my serve better”. In the quarter-finals the world No1 will play Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, with the victor to face either Lucas Pouille or Gael Monfils.
“I want to wish him all the best”.
Tsonga has gone away pretty tamely in most of their recent clashes, but he’s struggled with his fitness on a regular basis in the last few years and maybe now that he’s feeling fit we might see a competitive match.
The 34-year-old won 6-2 6-3 to pass Roger Federer in the all-time list of matches won at the tennis majors and made her way to the quarter-finals.
Bellis was 15 when she had her shocking win at the U.S. Open two years ago, but at 17 she is a more mature, grounded player.
Although everyone noticed that Djokovic is calling his physiotherapist during his match, he noted that everything’s fine and good.
“I just enjoyed the experience”, he said. The fourth seed tackles French 24th seed Lucas Pouille.
Djokovic, looking for his third major of 2016, boasts a remarkable record in NY.
And it was evident why Djokovic is the top-ranked player during his quick win over Kyle Edmund in the fourth round Sunday.
“He does seem like a profile of a person and a player that is very committed, very professional, down-to-earth, nice guy, good manners”.
Sania Mirza and her Russian partner Ivan Dodig lost in straight sets to Barbora Krejcikova and Marin Draganja in the second round of the mixed doubles category at the US Open tennis tournament here on Sunday.
Fourth-round first-timer Anastasija Sevastova, who put out French Open champion Garbine Muguruza in the second round, meets British 13th seed Johanna Konta.
Former No. 1 Ana Ivanovic says she’ll take the rest of the season off because of wrist and toe injuries.
After ending up being the runners-up at Rio Olympics 2016, Del Potro, at 142 in the world, has also become the lowest-ranked man in 25 years to reach the last eight.
