Murray to miss Britain’s Davis Cup quarter-final
Murray won his third career grand-slam title by beating Milos Raonic in Sunday’s Wimbledon final and has the Olympic Games and US Open to focus on in the coming months.

“I would love to now go on and get to No. 1 in the rankings but it will be incredibly hard as Novak’s consistency has been unbelievable”, he told BBC Sport.
“Now I feel quite different and No. 1 is definitely a goal”.
Captain Smith says he totally understands why Murray has decided not play in Serbia, calling the timing of the tie a “nightmare”, but hopes he will be on the sidelines to cheer on the rest of the team. If that’s the case I just can’t wait for him to dominate world tennis for the next five years or so.
“Novak is still clearly number one in the world right now”. Another tie-break came and, unlike last month at Queens, where Raonic rattled Murray for half the match and took a set off him, this time Murray closed out his third Grand Slam title to the delight of his fans.
Murray has reached all three Grand Slam finals in 2016, losing the previous two in Australia and France to Djokovic. “I see this as another good opportunity for me”. I tried to put the things together. I’ve learnt not to be afraid of failing.
And now the question becomes whether his third major championship will propel to him to more – and, if so, how many more?
The world number two was named in the team last week but admitted after winning Wimbledon on Sunday it was unlikely he would contest the tie.
Had Murray made a decision to play, he would have had no time to enjoy his Wimbledon triumph and would have had to head straight onto the clay.
When he lost to Federer in the 2012 final at the All England Club, agonizingly near to giving Britain its first male champion at Wimbledon since 1936 – a drought he would end a year later – Murray’s voice cracked and he cried as he assured the Centre Court crowd, “I’m getting closer”.
Raonic, couldn’t force many Murray mistakes as the second set unfolded with no breaks. “Last time, it was just pure relief, and I didn’t really enjoy the moment as much, whereas I’m going to make sure I enjoy this one”. I’m not suggesting this was only for me.

A video posted on Wimbledon’s official Twitter page, titled ‘Benedict Cumberbatch meets his biggest fan…’ shows Benedict and his wife Sophie Hunter praising Andy for his performance in the final. “It had been so long, I was so relieved that I’d done that”.
