Reid had terminal liver cancer and had entered hospice care on Tuesday after suffering multiple organ failure, according to his Facebook page.

Clarence Reid, a talented R&B musician and songwriter better known for his other stage persona as ‘Blowfly, a rap singer of X-rated material, died on January 17 aged 76. Then there was Blowfly-the masked, outrageous artist who did sexually charged songs (with titles like “Who Did I Eat Last Night?” and “Electronic Pussy Sucker”).

Miami songwriter and performer Clarence Reid, known as the “Original Dirty Rapper” Blowfly, has died.

His counter-culture messages earned the artist, who performed in superhero-style outfits and masks, a strong niche following, although the nature of his lyrics kept him from mainstream appeal. These included 1980’s Blowfly’s Party, 1987’s Blowfly And The Temple Of Doom, 1999’s Blowfly Does XXX-Mas, and 2012’s Black In The Sack.

Big names from the music industry chimed in Sunday to wish Reid farewell, among them rapper Ice-T.

RED HOT CHILI PEPPER bassist FLEA Twittered his condolences. Rolling Stone also says that Bowker believed Reid would release one last album this year, titled 77 Rusty Trombones, but it’s unclear if it was actually written or recorded before his death.
