Muslim women accused of being terrorists by French restaurant owner
The court’s suspension of the ban in the town of Villeneuve-Loubet established a legal precedent for other towns to do the same. “We’ve changed it thirty odd times, it’s not a problem”.

In France, the public and politicians alike have been divided over the burkini.
According to the statement, the ban “does not improve the security situation but rather fuel religious intolerance and the stigmatization of Muslims in France, especially women”.
A court ruling on Friday overturned France’s controversial burkini ban on civil liberties grounds, but some local authorities have vowed to keep it in place. The mayor of Tremblay-en-France, François Asensi, condemned the “hateful and stigmatizing speech recorded in the video”, and said such treatment is punishable by law.
Four cases to scrap the ban have been officially begun. The incident took place Saturday night.
Colville said the United Nations rights office welcomed the ruling affecting the seaside town of Villeneuve-Loubet, urging authorities in other French seaside towns and resorts that had adopted similar bans “to repeal them immediately”.
Supporters of the ban believe that due to the increasing terror threats and recent attacks, this is one surefire way to guarantee safety.
“Clearly, individuals wearing burkinis, or any other form of clothing for that matter, can not be blamed for the violent or hostile reactions of others”, he said.
The mayor of a seaside town on the French Riviera is sticking by his town’s burkini ban, telling beachgoers, “if you don’t want to live the way we do, don’t come”.
Laurence Rossignol, who is the French minister for Families, Children, and Women’s Rights, announced that she has asked the ministerial delegation charged with fighting racism and anti-Semitism to look into the incident.
The public has participated in a debate that has spread much farther than the borders of France. “Current laws clearly lay out France’s secularism”, adding, “the government refuses to legislate on this because a law would be unconstitutional, ineffective, and likely to create antagonism and irreparable tensions”.

Others have questioned the ban, using jokes to criticize the perceived injustice and level of attention given to the issue.
