Muslims around the world celebrate Eid al-Adha holiday

Thousands of Muslims have joined together to pray in the streets of Western Sydney in celebration of the end of Eid al-Adha. Imam Karim, head of the Masjid Al-Furqaan of Felicity, Chaguanas said that Eid ul-Adha is the greater Eid for Muslims and should be accorded greater prominence in the list of national holidays.

The Eid-ul-Adha comes 2 months and 10 days after the end of the Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of 30 or 29 days of fasting in the month of Ramadan.

The major rituals of the Hajj are performed during a five-day period from the 8th through the 12th of Dhu al-Hijjah on the Muslim lunar calendar.

Eid’l Adha celebrates Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to Allah, but an angel appeared and gave him a ram to sacrifice instead. It is one of two Eid holidays observed by Muslims.

The family retains one third of the share; another third is given to relatives, friends and neighbors; and the remaining third is given to the poor and needy.

The President and Prime Minister, as well as other state officials, congratulated Georgia’s Muslim community with the celebration Monday morning.

Ubpon said that Eid’l Adha or the “Feast of the Sacrifice”, commemorates the deeds of the Prophet Ibrahim or Abraham.

In another article this July, BuzzFeed noted that some black Muslims were posting online about the lack of black representation in Snapchat’s Eid story-and suggesting that #BlackOutEid was a direct response to the low visibility of black Muslims. This comes after the early morning Eid Al-Adha prayers.

“They told me that I will soon get an SMS to tell me that a sheep has really been slaughtered”, Qahtani said.
