Muslims Celebrate Eid Al-Fitr as Holy Month Comes to a Close

NAIROBI, Kenya – Thousands of Muslims in various parts in Kenya celebrated Eid al-Fitr on Friday, rather than on Saturday as Kenya’s highest Muslim cleric had instructed.

Along with the locals, Muslims from elsewhere in the country who are in Tripura for work joined the prayers.

Internationally, the moon was sighted in Saudi Arabia on Thursday and the kingdom’s Supreme Court announced that Eid al Fitr will fall on Friday, according to newspaper Al Arabiya.

Bender says Eid is a school holiday in New York and CAIR has begun to work on making it a school holiday here. It was also an opportunity for us to get more concentrated in our daily prayers.

It is a common sight to see Muslims, men and women, young and old, make their way to their closets mosque for morning prayers.

Municipal authorities covered up advertising billboards and signs that could offend the feelings of Muslims near their mosques and prayer sites.

“Not all people are going for the celebrations, so for those ones we encourage them to ensure that they register or verify their details if they are living in wards where the by-elections will take place”, he said.

He said: “On a personal level Eid is a time for me to forgive those who have done me wrong and atone for any mistakes I may have committed”.
