New delhi, Sep 25 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tribute to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya on his 100th birth anniversary and urged his compatriots to celebrate the year as “Gareeb Kalyan Varsh” (Year for Welfare of the Poor). Modi asked and recalled that long back, Upadhyaya, founding father of the Jan Sangh – the predecessor of the BJP – had said that Muslims should not be mere tools to garner votes nor neglected. Dont think of them as vote banks or commodities, think of them as your own, Modi said while addressing at the BJPs National Council meet. “People should have faith in the political system”, said PM Modi. BJP has dedicated the three-day conclave in Kozhikode to Deendayal Upadhyay who was the forerunner of the party and also laid the ideological foundations. If we wld have entered politics for gains, we would have compromised on values at some level.

“A country such as ours, with full of young people, should have youthful dreams and youthful pace”.
“BJP’s original character is based on principles of welfare of the people”.
“Don’t reward nor rebuke Muslims but refine them”.
“When we talk of this idea, we talk about the last man standing in the queue… we need to empower them socially and economically”.

“Today, people talk about global warming, but Deendayal Upadhyaya ji used to say back then that we should respect our resources”, he stressed. On Mahatma Gandhi birth anniversary (Oct 2), we will ratify the decisions that were made during COP21. “Our party was formed for the poor section of society, and all our initiatives today focus on down-trodden people”, PM Modi said today. We have never compromised on our ideals.
