My Turn: Why we should cut Cam Newton some slack
“I can tell you that”, Newton said. “I’m sure he’ll sit down with his family and then eventually we’ll talk to him, too, and go through that”. But at the end of the day, things have to happen. Last year, I struggled with the Chicago media.

Newton acknowledged that he was a “sore loser” after the Panthers fell to the Denver Broncos 24-10 on Sunday night in Santa Clara, Calif. He answered only a few questions from the media before walking out. “You show me a good loser and I’m going to show you a loser”. “Who likes to lose?” he posited to a media pack. I have some friends that like to go hunting in MS in January and they invite you and I always say, ‘I hope I’m not available to go hunting in January, I want to be playing in January.’ So, when you do play into February it makes for a long season.
“It’s not a popularity contest, I’m here to win football games”.
As always, the Super Bowl brings us a bittersweet moment: some of us get to see our favorite players get a ring (or we win a lot of money), but all of us have to deal with losing football for six months.
“I love Peyton, I’ve watched him my whole life, but I also really like the story of Cam Newton”. “I don’t think he’s going to retire though”. We did what a lot of people didn’t expect us to do.
The Carolina Panthers packed up their locker room Tuesday after a disappointing end to the franchise’s best season. “But it is worth noting that another quarterback once demonstrated poor sportsmanship after a Super Bowl loss as well, but didn’t face almost as much criticism. I know what I’m capable of and I know where I’m going”, Newton said. “I think he’s grown up quite a bit”. But I think it’s also obvious he’s still maturing.
“I would give it to DeMarcus and (Derek) Wolfe and all the other guys”, Miller said. I’m not that guy. “I was like, ‘No!’ Because you lose, and you can’t do that”.

Cam said he felt like his leg was in a bad position and might have gotten rolled in when asked about the fumble he didn’t dive for.
