N Korea warns South, calls its President ‘psychopath’ over nuclear missile row

Hundreds of South Koreans have had their heads shaved in protest over a government decision to install a U.S. manufactured anti-missile defence unit.

Many residents said they don’t believe THAAD is effective and worry they will become a DPRK target if there is a missile attack.

About 900 South Koreans shaved their heads in protest against the decision to place a US THAAD missile defense system on their land with the goal of countering threats from North Korea. “We will no longer deny or turn a blind eye to the suffering of the North Korean people who are living in great hardship because of the wrong choices made by the North Korean regime”, she said.

An unidentified South Korean military official told the Yonhap news service last week that Washington and Seoul are set to start discussing for a missile purchase soon as an additional hedge against North Korean ballistic missiles. Notably, the Kaesong Industrial Complex was closed in February, suspending one of the few symbols of inter-Korean cooperation.

On the same day, which is referred to as “Liberation Day” by North Koreans, the DPRK state-run newspaper Rodong Sinmun reported on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s sending of a congratulatory message to Kim Jong Un.

North Korea also stated “240 years of USA history is coming to an end”, and that the United States does not respect the bonds between peoples and races and that the country will soon be “shattered to pieces”. Park also urged North Korea to put an “immediate halt” to its pursuit of weapons of mass destruction such as a nuclear arsenal.
