Arsenal agreed a deal with Swiss club Basel for Egypt midfielder Elneny even before the January transfer window opened, but the club are still waiting for all the paperwork to be sorted out.
The Frenchman has made no secret of the Gunners’ interest in the 23-year-old defensive midfielder, but has now admitted that the Emirates side are on the verge of making the signing official.
“However, at the moment, I love England, I love London and I love my team-mates so everything is positive”. There is a lot of work permit problems and special paperwork to do.
Wenger is right to remains cautious – only last week he sent out a similar message, suggesting the deal was almost over the line.
Monreal has been ever-present for the Gunners this season and is arguably the best left back in the league since August 2015.
Wenger said in the Daily Mirror: “We’ll announce that at some stage, when it’s finished”.
“(The) Liverpool game will come too soon for Sanchez”, Wenger said.
Wenger hinted at the weekend that Elneny’s transfer move was imminent.
