Nadal exacts revenge over Verdasco to reach Indian Wells fourth round

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic has qualified for the third round of the Indian Wells tennis tournament after a hard-fought 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 win against the 149-ranked American Bjorn Fratangelo.

Nadal has constantly faced allegations of taking banned substances during his career, the latest of which came from ex-French Minister for Health and Sport Roselyne Bachelot.

“I was just trying to find my rhythm out there, trying my best to not get off to a slow start”, Williams said. “There is a couple of times I heard comments like this, and that’s what – this gonna be the last one, because I’m gonna sue her”. “I believe in long-term balance and harmonious health and well-being that is achieved from different aspects”.

“My intensity was higher and I started making my shots”.

But like every other top player this week, the questions directed at him weren’t focused on the state of his game or health but rather Maria Sharapova’s positive drug test for meldonium.

“I found it (Putintseva’s style) good to play”.

“I disregard these statements that are baseless and lacking objective elements”, Gasol told reporters on Friday evening, following a game against the Miami Heat. “Very happy for the victory after last three matches that I lost have been in three sets or five sets”.

The drama surrounding Nadal lingered and the wind swirled as he stepped onto Stadium Court on Sunday.

After ending a 3-match losing streak in deciding sets, Nadal will get a rematch with Fernando Verdasco. With Putintseva serving for the set, her American opponent played a dominating return game to break courtesy of a huge forehand return victor to force a tiebreak. He entered Indian Wells as a fourth seed in the tournament and had to fight back several times to beat Gilles Muller.

The 40-year-old Costa is preparing for another huge welcome for Nadal at next month’s Barcelona Open, where Kei Nishikori will be bidding for a rate third straight title at the Real Club de Tenis; Nadal has won eight home titles, the last in 2013.

The draw sets up a possible semi-final clash between Djokovic and Spaniard Rafael Nadal. Verdasco defeated Nadal in the first round of the Australian Open in January.

“I thought I played really well today”, said Zverev. “I just kept missing it either in the net or missing it out”. It is an important victory for me. He’s won two majors and won the Olympics and he’s sort of the the “next guy”. “We will see [this matchup] a lot in the future”.
