Nadal stunned by Dustin Brown in 2nd round at Wimbledon
“She’s playing so well”, Serena said. “So, if you want to use the house, it’s going to be free tomorrow”.

Dustin Brown is struggling to replicate the kind of performance that saw him beat Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon, losing the first two sets in his third-round match against Viktor Troicki.
Four other women from the US won Wednesday, including two real surprises: 158th-ranked qualifier Bethanie Mattek-Sands eliminated No. 7 Ana Ivanovic, the 2009 French Open champion, 6-3, 6-4; and 47th-ranked CoCo Vandeweghe, the niece of ex- National Basteball Association player and executive Kiki, beat No. 11 Karolina Pliskova 7-6 (5), 6-4.
It’s the fourth year in a row that Nadal leaves the All England Club early.
He’s played three matches, won all in straight sets, and never dropped more than four games in any set.
At age 35, 21 years removed from her first professional tournament, Williams still possesses a risky serve, along with the muscle memory that comes with seven Grand Slam singles titles, five of which came at Wimbledon. He closed out the match by winning the fourth-set tiebreaker.
Marin Cilic (9), Croatia, def. Ricardas Berankis, Lithuania, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (6), 4-6, 7-5.
Before the 102nd-ranked Brown, Nadal lost to No. 100 Lukas Rosol in the second round in 2012, to No. 135 Steve Darcis in the first round in 2013, and to No. 144 Nick Kyrgios in the fourth round in 2014.
The Australian double-faulted three times in the final game of the first set but rode his big serve the rest of the way, finishing with 34 aces to beat the Canadian on Court No. 2.
Nadal used to leave opponents feeling that way, too. “Then the Duchess opened up her bag and my wristband was in there, so he (Brook) obviously had given it to her”.
He received a code violation for throwing his racket so hard to the ground that it bounced into the crowd, and was told to turn his Wimbledon headband inside out because the green-and-purple stripes on it were too colorful.
Kyrgios next faces Gasquet, who thoroughly dominated Dimitrov in a match between two players with classic one-handed backhands. Both of those Australians lost in the opening round of singles.
After a small hiccup, Roger Federer quickly found his stride again to advance at Wimbledon.
Federer was equally untroubled in a 6-4 6-2 6-2 mauling of American Sam Querrey.
LONDON (AP) – Down a break at 3-1 in the first set, defending champion Novak Djokovic kept his cool on the hottest day in Wimbledon history.
The Czech player joined the growing list of favorites to earn straight-forward victories in the second round by beating Kurumi Nara of Japan 6-2, 6-0 in less than an hour on Court 1 on Thursday. On that last point, he again looked up at the chair umpire after the first serve before challenging the second. He hit a between-the-legs shot from close to the net that went long.
Federer went on to break before taking a 2-0 lead.
Milos Raonic (7), Canada, def. Tommy Haas, Germany, 6-0, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (4).
The 13th-seeded Pole was broken when serving for the match at 5-1, but broke right back at love to seal the win.
Andy Murray had a laugh at his BBC TV interviewer’s expense after Thursday’s straight-set victory at Wimbledon.
That drew an incredulous look and a chuckle from the tournament’s 2013 champion.
Responded his interlocutor: “Well, it depends how the interviews go, Andy”.

Who could have imagined this sort of triumph back then?
“She probably comes back here and, you know, I think, she nearly feels like this is home”, said David Witt, Venus’ coach. He waved his arms in the middle of a point that he lost. She’ll have to get past five-time champion Serena Williams in the next round.

The one other time Watson made it this far at Wimbledon, in 2012, she managed to win only two games in a loss to eventual runner-up Agnieszka Radwanska.
John Isner (17), United States, def. Matthew Ebden, Australia, 6-2, 7-6 (8), 6-4.
Organizers said more showers could come throughout the day. Play on the outside courts will start shortly, while matches in the main stadiums won’t start until about 1 p.m. Michael and Carole Middleton, the parents of Prince William’s wife Kate, will also be in the Royal Box.
Wimbledon will hold a minute of silence at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the London bombings. Organizers said rain showers were forecast to continue into the afternoon.

Garbine Muguruza will play in the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the first time. And Wimbledon had been the 30-year-old Simon’s worst Grand Slam.
