Tonight is likely to see her accepting The Great British Bake Off trophy – and the life-changing opportunities that come with it.

“There is nothing so scary as the final, and I didn’t know if I would be able to cope with it, but I was fine”, says Nancy.

For her final challenge she created the wedding cake she missed out on at her own wedding in Bangladesh, which she decorated in a red, white and blue sari, the colours of the Union Jack.

It was hard not to feel sorry for Ian when he had the gut wrenching realisation: “Did I leave something out?”

She went into it the strongest, kept it together and didn’t seem to make any errors compared to Ian and Tamal, who were so nervous they got things wrong. Bookies’ favourite Nadiya Jamal Hussain carried off the Great British Bake Off prize in a finale watched by an estimated 14 million, producing flawless iced buns, towering mille feuilles and a showstopper lemon wedding cake with marshmallow icing and jewels and flower for decoration.

Nadiya, 30, has perfected her baking skills over the last ten years, after putting her career on hold to concentrate on raising her three children.

During her time in the tent, Nadiya has earned a cult following – with viewers loving her array of amusing facial expressions.

This sixth series of the GBOB has been the most succesful yet averaging 10 million viewers per show and with just an enough collapsing cakes and slovenly trifles to keep people glued to their seats.

The Luton-born baker admitted to a lack of confidence before she went on the show.

“But it is still great and I am really looking forward to the final”.

“I was absolutely exhausted before the last two days of filming because I had done so much practice at home”. The fact that her final piece was regarded as the wedding cake she and her husband never had added a heartwarming (and tear-jerking) factor to her triumph. Oh, the excitement! How am I going to spend my Wednesday nights now… maybe I won’t be putting away that kitchen scales just yet.

“Mary and Paul hugged me and Mary told me I deserved to win, and that made me cry again”.

“During the actual challenges you don’t get a moment to realise where you are”.

Have you got an incredible baking creation you’re proud of?

“We are really happy for her and her family”.

“We’ve seen broadcasters around the world put their own special twist on the format to great success, for example with the speciality cakes that are associated with different countries”, says Elin Thomas at BBC Worldwide.
