Accusing Congress of holding democracy to ransom over the National Herald case, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said the government has no role in the issue and will wait for court verdict for before taking any action.

Having started on a high note, the Congress found itself on the backfoot by the end of the week as the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government successfully sent out the message that the principal opposition party was blocking Parliament only to protect its “First Family”. And what has stopping of Parliament got to do with the case of National Herald? Are the Gandhis responsible for the deal?

“(This is) one hundred percent political vendetta, pure political vendetta coming out of the PM Office.

Asked if the Congress was trying to threaten judiciary with its protest in parliament, Gandhi shot back saying it was the other way round. “Modi had dignifiedly handled the charges against him including questioning by the Special Investigation Team” over the 2002 riots when he was Gujarat Chief Minister. The Congress had conveyed its three objections to the Bill when Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited his predecessor Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi for tea to discuss the GST Bill at the beginning of this session.

The BJP leader also accused the Congress of stalling the progress of the country by disrupting parliament proceedings.

Stating that if at all Congress felt that it was a battle, Naidu said it has to be fought legally and it has to be taken up in court. “We have told the government that we have differences with them on three issues”.

“The issue has to be sorted out in courts not on the streets, not in Parliament, it has to be argued in courts”. “There was no cheating in National Herald case”.
