Najeeb Jung returns file on minimum wage hike

The Delhi government on Friday sent a file on hiking minimum wages back to Lt Governor Najeeb Jung for approval after correcting errors that he had pointed out, a government official said.

He added if any Delhi minister went overseas for personal work, he paid for it.

Earlier in the day, attacking Mr Jung for returning the file, Mr Kejriwal said “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s L-G” has returned file on minimum wages at a time when 18 crore workers are on a nation-wide strike.

It did not accept AAP government’s contention that L-G was bound to act only on the aid and advice of the chief minister and his council of ministers with regard to making of laws by the legislative assembly under the Article 239AA and termed it as “without substance”. Besides, details about officials on deputation to the Delhi government and its subordinate organisations have also been sought. Since it took charge of the Delhi government, Kejriwal and his ministers have repeatedly pointed out the spheres of government over which his regime had little to no control+.

Labour Minister Rai had met Jung over the issue and said the LG returned the file citing some errors in it.

Yesterday, Kejriwal and Jain returned from Vatican City, where they had gone to attend the sainthood ceremony of Mother Teresa. Jain said AAP ministers make fewer visits overseas than their counterparts in other states.

“Government’s work is not affected if a minister goes for poll campaigning”. Kejriwal will be away from the national capital for almost a fortnight for a throat surgery and to take stock of AAP’s preparations in poll-bound Punjab.

This is first foreign visit made by the Delhi Chief Minister since the Aam Aadmi Party has come to power in February, 2015. “He will meet party leaders and address a public gathering in Punjab”, a government official said.
