Najma Heptulla appointed Governor of poll-bound Manipur

Another governor who was replaced on Wednesday is Andaman and Nicobar Islands Lieutenant Governor A.K. Singh, who will pass on the baton to BJP leader and former Delhi government finance minister Jagdish Mukhi.

She had resigned from the Union Ministry on July 12, 2016 as she had crossed 75 years of age. Heptullah will be the 18th Governor.

The Government has appointed Governors of three States and Lt Governor of a Union Territory today, Bureaucracy Today has learnt.

Former Rajya Sabha MP V P Singh Badnore will be the new Punjab Governor. The 68-year-old Badnore, who hails from Rajasthan, will succeed Shivraj Patil, the communique said.

The Congress-ruled state goes to polls in February next year. VP Singh Badnore will become the new Governor of Punjab.

Nagaland Governor Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya was holding additional charge as Assam Governor, a post which will now be assumed by 76-year-old Purohit.

She is one of the four new governors appointed by the Centre, along with those for Assam, Punjab and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
