Nancy Reagan dies at 94

State Republican Party Chairwoman Susan Hutchisonsays she was a KIRO 7 anchor, a nonpartisan journalist, when she was chosen to interview first lady Nancy Reagan back in 1984.

Courtwright said Nancy Reagan was a different kind of first lady – one who wasn’t shy about what she wanted.

Mrs. Reagan will be buried at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, next to her husband, Ronald Wilson Reagan, who died on June 5, 2004.

She was married to former president Ronald Reagan for 52 years, and joined him in the White House for eight years from 1981 to 1989.

Former President George W Bush said Reagan’s influence was “complete and lasting” and noted her fierce loyalty to her husband.

After the President revealed he suffered from Alzheimer’s disease in the mid-90s – it was Mrs. Reagan who made big decisions on the presidential library. But for two years, during the Reagan administration, Will Novak served as the ghost writer of first lady Nancy Reagan.

“Nancy Reagan was an example to us all of graciousness, loyalty and dignity in good times and bad, ” said U.S. Sen.

The Obamas expressed condolences to the Reagan children and grandchildren in the statement.

The war on drugs is one of the most prominent things she will be remembered for. Alzheimer’s being dear to her heart because of her husband’s diagnosis.

“I think they had a little bit of an edgy relationship really because dad was a real independent Texan and he was part of the grass-roots campaign because Reagan was really a political outsider”, Gabriel said. “She became an unofficial spokesperson for those dealing with Alzheimer’s while she took care of ‘Ronnie.’ She worked tirelessly in support of finding the cause”.

She will be laid to rest next to the 40th President at the library. He added that she was “fiercely loyal to her beloved husband” and always demonstrated her devotion to the United States, which gave her a “complete and lasting” place in the White House.
