Naquin hits game-ending inside-the-park HR, Indians top Jays

Tyler Naquin followed Jose Ramirez’s game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth inning with a walk-off inside-the-park homer to lift the Cleveland Indians to a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night at Progressive Field. Upton flung it toward the infield, and Naquin stumbled home and scored with a head-first dive way ahead of second baseman Devon Travis’ relay. After scoring the game-winning run, Naquin stood up at home plate, threw his fist high into the air, let out a celebratory scream and was mobbed by his teammates in jubilation.

Osuna blew his third save in 30 chances.

Then, after hitting the first two pitches into foul territory, taking one outside of the strike zone and fouling off another, Naquin hit a fly ball to deep right field.

The Boston Red Sox now are just a half game behind the first-place Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East standings after Toronto lost in rare (and shocking) fashion Friday.

Altuve finished 3-for-6 with a two-run homer, a two-run double plus an RBI single as the Astros (62-60) snapped a five-game losing streak.

It’s possible that Donaldson’s absence is tied to jamming his right thumb on Wednesday, but it’s likely that he returns to the lineup at some point this weekend. Bauer retired Edwin Encarnacion, but Martin homered.

Manager John Gibbons expects both to be available Saturday. Outfielder Darrell Ceciliani was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo.

Blue Jays: RHP Aaron Sanchez will start for the first time since August 13 as the team attempts to limit his innings.
