Narendra Modi doesn’t name Pakistan, but labels it as ‘exporter of terror’

September 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday continued his tirade against Pakistan, saying there is one country in India’s neighbourhood whose competitive advantage rests exclusively in producing and exporting terrorism.

On the eve of his visit to Laos to attend ASEAN and East Asia Summits, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India wishes to enhance physical and digital connectivity with the South East Asian nations and leverage the modern interconnected world for the mutual benefit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi used two global summits on Thursday to excoriate India’s neighbourhood rivals, first targeting Beijing’s muscle-flexing in the South China Sea and then seeking “strongest action” against state-sponsors of terrorism to hit out at Islamabad.

Stating natural disasters as common challenge and joint priority, Prime Minister Modi said that India will host the Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in November.

His statement assumes significance in the wake of his visit to Vietnam, India’s country coordinator for the Asean, on Friday and Saturday.

“We continue to expand and deepen our economic engagements, ” Modi said.

Bambawale also called for greater bilateral trade ties and said political issues will take time to resolve.

This could be the last meeting between Modi and Obama as leaders of the two countries with Obama’s second term as US President coming to an end in January next year.

According to Swarup, during the meeting, Sisoulith appreciated India’s consistent support for Laos since the country’s independence “particularly in areas of human resources development, agriculture, irrigation and power”.

“They agreed that efforts shall be made to orientate the development of China-India relations in the right direction”, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said in a written reply to PTI today about how China viewed the meeting.

On his part, the Prime Minister praised the President for his contribution to the India-US relationship and the growing trust between the two sides. Two leaders reviewed bilateral relations which were upgraded to special strategic partnership previous year during Mr. Modi’s visit to South Korea.
