Narendra Modi in Laos to attend summits

PM Narendra Modi also had bilateral meeting with South Korean President Park Guen-Hye. India and ASEAN have 30 dialogue mechanisms which meet regularly.

Stating that countries have to be mindful of common security challenges, he said India would organise the second East Asia Conference on maritime security and cooperation later this year.

“Indeed, one single nation in South Asia is spreading these agents of terror in the countries of our region”, Modi reportedly remarked.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday at the last session of the G20 Summit delivered a strong message on cracking down on terror emanating from Pakistan.

During the meeting, Obama also praised Modi’s vision of entrepreneurship and innovation, which he said would be “very important for a country like India”.

“India wants to enhance physical and digital connectivity in the region, enhance people to people links and also strengthen institutional linkages and leverage the modern interconnected world for the mutual benefit of the people in the region”, he said.

The White House official said Obama thanked Modi for his cooperation on a broad range of global and bi lateral issues and commended his leadership in addressing the urgent threats posed by climate change.

“We have to join our efforts and cooperate on multiple levels to fight the situation, ‘ noted the leader in his address to the Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)”.

“In South Asia, India and most countries of the region are pursuing a peaceful path to economic prosperity”, Modi said in his speech to the leaders of the 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) countries as well as those of Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, the U.S. and Russian Federation who make up the EAS-a regional leaders’ forum for strategic dialogue and cooperation on key challenges facing the East Asian region.

On the issues like CPEC and terrorism emanating from Pakistan’s soil, Hu said that India and China should hold free and frank discussions to find solutions.

Stating that cooperation in science and technology was a crucial element of India-Asean developmental engagement, he proposed to enhance the India-Asean Fund with an additional grant of $50 million.

Minister of State for External Affairs V.K. Singh recently attended the ASEAN-India Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and EAS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Vientiane on 25-26 July 2016. As a follow-up, the OIC Contact Group on Kashmir will hold a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly from September 19-22.
