The meeting condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and expressed the resolve that Pakistan would not allow use of its soil for terror activities and extend all-out help to the neighbouring countries in eradication of this menace.

Meeting review the progress made on the information provided by the Government of India.

Acknowledging that the US’s “relationship with Pakistan is complicated.and we don’t always agree on everything”, he reiterated that the need for Pakistan to be “aggressive” in its counter-terror operations and to ‘bring the perpetrators (of the Mumbai terror attack also) to justice’. “Maybe Pakistan has eight days to take action against those responsible for it”, said MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup. The official said that the meeting also made a decision to speed up implementation of National Action Plan.

The official indicated that the USA wants to give the civilian government time and space to act on its words and hoped that Pakistan would not repeat its past trend wherein it is seen reluctant in taking actions against terrorist groups under one excuse or the other.

“They should have thought about all this before going to Lahore because terrorist attacks have been taking place on India for many years now”.

“They said that they (Pakistan) would investigate it and we need to let that process go forward”.

Seven Indian security forces personnel were killed in the attack, carried out by unidentified militants and probably meant to undermine improving ties between India and Pakistan.

PUTTING the ball squarely in Pakistan’s court, India on Thursday linked the Foreign Secretary- level talks to Islamabad’s “prompt and decisive” action in the Pathankot terror attack for which it has provided “actionable intelligence”. Attempts to restart talks have been frequently thwarted by attacks between the two countries, which have fought three wars since becoming separate nations in 1947.
