The Prime Minister’s upcoming visit to the state, the fourth since assuming office, has triggered a debate about who has served Odisha better in the past two years- the Narendra Modi-led NDA government or the BJD government of Naveen Patnaik with both having completing two years in their present term.
Attacking Congress governments, Modi said, “Previous governments thought they were good to the country”.
“I see scores of people here”.
Describing himself as the “pradhan sevak” of the country, Modi said he had come down to Balasore and Odisha to explain what his government has done for the poor. “Some of them have even started paying back to banks”, Modi said, adding, this was the richness of the poor people.
“Odisha is a state where natural resources are aplenty but it’s people are neglected and the state is lacking development”.
The prime minister said that his government is dedicated to the poor of the country. “The god has given you everything”, he said. He stated that Government of India was focused and was giving priority to develop Eastern India.
States like Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh show that “BJP means development and development means BJP”, he said.
BJP credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for the economic growth of 7.9 percent in the last quarter, saying it was a “pleasant outcome” of the government’s work under him despite “political adversities”.
BJP has officially maintained that it had nothing to say about the issue.
“It claimed Modi’s strategy is simple – create negative hype around Congress party by “planting concocted” stories in media & create positive hype around Government work that “never took place”. When election comes, they would come up sops”, he said.
“Our government believes in Sabka Sath-Sabka Vikas (Everyone’s Participation, Everyone’s Development)”, he added. “We have initiated Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao movement to encourage birth of girl child”.

He said “Janani Surakshya Yojana” and other schemes have been helpful for such people. He said the government is committed to electrify every village within 1,000 days.
