Narine cleared to resume spinning

Narine was suspended from bowling in global cricket past year in November with immediate effect after the ICC on found the bowling action to be illegal.

Narine’s off-spinner was under scrutiny – bio-mechanical tests showed the flexion was well beyond 15 degrees – but the bowler, according to sources, has been able to send down this delivery legally with a re-modelled action.

The 27-year-old successfully underwent tests at the Sri Ramachandra University in Chennai on March 28, after spending months remodelling his action.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) yesterday confirmed the legality of the bowler’s action following a remedial work and a retest.

Narine was reported during the third One Day International against Sri Lanka on 7 November 2015 in Pallekele and subsequently banned.

On the other hand, KKR CEO Venky Mysore said that the Trinidadian has got the clearance but will miss the first match of the season due to his father’s sudden demise.

He was also named in the West Indies squad for the World Twenty20 2016, but withdrew citing insufficient progress in the rehabilitative work on his bowling action.

He is now free once again to play in global and domestic competitions. He had also been reported for a similar problem during the Champions League T20 tournament in 2014.

Kolkata possess a number of potent spin options, with evergreen Australian Brad Hogg, Bangladesh allrounder Shakib al Hasan and Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, along with Narine, all set to battle for spots.
