NASA denies reports of changing Zodiac Signs, says it’s all hoax
A blog post aimed at teaching science to kids, first written in January, and uncovered last week discussed the history of the Zodiac and the 12 common constellations that Babylonians first charted 3,000 years ago.

Nasa isn’t changing everyone’s star signs. With the addition of this new 13 constellation with the 12 we already know, there has been a shift in the calendar between Scorpio and Sagittarius.
Now simiar move tweaked a little is going viral on social media and in Whatsapp saying NASA changed the Zodiac Signs with the 13th one called Ophiuchus and those born in October-November will no longer be Scorpions but come under this new sign. Periodically, astronomers will announce “breaking news” that horoscopes aren’t accurate because the constellations have shifted. But for scientists, the idea was ridiculous: Zodiac signs aren’t scientific.
Here’s an interesting bit of clarification between astronomy and astrology.
Astrological signs say a lot about us. The earth is affected by gravitational pull caused by both the earth and sun, and rather than track our star signs according to the stars, Western astrology tends to rely on the path of the Sun as seen from our vantage point on earth. That is why zodiac sign dates remain the same even as the heavens keep shifting. The blog post mentioned a 13th constellation that is not recognized in modern times.
But recently NASA has dismissed all these rumors and clarified that it is not involved in any adjustment process of Zodiac signs. On this year’s June solstice, the Sun will be sitting between Gemini and Taurus.
Fun fact: Up until few centuries ago, astrology and astronomy were considered part of the same discipline.
These Star signs were assigned by the Babylonians about 3,000 years ago.
As sixth-grade stargazers, we traveled to Huntsville, Alabama for a week to attend Space Camp, earning our wings and learning about the likes of G-forces, freeze-dried food, and shuttle missions. In that post, on NASA Space Place, the difference between the two is clearly spelled out.
You might have heard that every horoscope you’ve ever read has been thrown into turmoil by the United States space agency. One minute you’re living life as a Leo, the next – bam!

Here’s a deal, NASA: We won’t meddle with the next space shuttle mission if you stop giving the world another astrological identity crisis.
