Alex Bowman will be subbing for Earnhardt this weekend while Jeff Gordon will be back in Earnhardt’s vehicle next weekend at Darlington. In Funny Car, Ron Capps earned his fifth win of the season and the 50th of his career, defeating Del Worsham (who came back two days later to win the regularly scheduled race at Brainerd).

NASCAR announced exclusively via Facebook that, beginning in 2017, kids ages 12 and younger will be admitted free to all NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races at Kentucky Speedway. Friday, qualifying (5:15 p.m., NBCSN).
Trevor Bayne: Another Chase “bubble” driver that, more than likely, has to find Victory Lane in the final three regular-season races to make the “playoffs”. Matt Kenseth is the defending victor of this race, while Joey Logano won the June event at MIS. Saturday, practice (8:30 a.m., CNBC; 11:30 a.m., CNBC), Sunday, race (2 p.m., NBCSN).
The Pure Michigan 400 Sprint Cup race will start just after 2 p.m. ET Sunday at Michigan International Speedway. Justin Allgaier is third, one point ahead of Ty Dillon. There have been six different winners in the six previous Xfinity races at Road America: Carl Edwards (2010), Reed Sorenson (2011), Nelson Piquet Jr. (2012), AJ Allmendinger (2013), Brendan Gaughan (2014) and Paul Menard (2015). Chances are good since Brendan Gaughan of Richard Childress Racing is the only previous Road America victor entered in the race.

The Pure Michigan 400 Sprint Cup race will be run at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, Aug. 28. Last race: Ben Kennedy notched his first win of the season at Bristol Motor Speedway. Wisconsin native Paul Menard won this race past year, preceded by wins by Brendan Gaughan in 2014 and AJ Allmendinger in 2013. Ben Kennedy, great-grandson of NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. and son of International Speedway Corp.
So I’m really curious to see how Hendrick Motorsports does Sunday.
