NASCAR’s Tony Stewart sued in 2014 death of Kevin Ward, Jr

This weekend’s Sprint Cup race will be a very unique NASCAR event because it’s on a road course at Watkins Glen worldwide in New York – rather than on an oval track. Their post-race row within the attic door afterwards remnants one of the many resource situations because Cup number all started developing in daily at Watkins Glen in 1986.

One year to the day after 20 year old Kevin Ward Jr., died at the Canandaigua Motorsports Park after being hit by Tony Stewart, the racetrack is planning a moment of silence to honor his memory. An angry Ward had gotten out of his vehicle to confront Stewart, who hit Ward as he zoomed by.

Alllmendinger, the 2006 victor of the Honda Indy Toronto, uses the “us against the world” as motivation to prove he belongs on the same track as the big boys. “It’s just pressure on myself to go out there and perform”.

“Everybody’s touting it the best thing since sliced bread, but I don’t know if it is or isn’t gonna be”, NASCAR fan Marvin Eastman said. It’s great when you get it right. “Unfortunately, I have a feeling that’s going to get brought up a lot this week, but it doesn’t help you continue to move forward with it”. With five races to decide the field for the Chase, a win would lock him into the playoffs for a final championship run.

‘I would be lying if I said there wasn’t a piece of relief, but that was very short-lived in my heart, ‘ he said.

“I’m trying to not think about it”, Stewart said at a midweek appearance in Texas.

“We try to keep each other on an even level”. ‘It went right back to the fact that we lost Kevin.

The earlier session at noon had been topped by Michael Waltrip Racing’s Clint Bowyer with a lap of 69.267s (127.333mph) putting him just 0.091s ahead of last year’s race victor AJ Allmendinger (JTG Daugherty). “I think there’s always positives that come out of every scenario”. “It’s important for us, if we can’t win this race, to be really solid, get a good solid finish”.

On Friday, attorneys representing the Ward family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Stewart, another hurdle in what has been a season without much hope until recently. Stewart-Haas Racing, the NASCAR Sprint Cup team Stewart co-owns, also declined comment.

Ward’s family has requested a jury trial, seeking unspecified monetary damages.

Stewart was the only defendant named in a wrongful death lawsuit filed on Friday in the 5th Judicial District for the Supreme Court in New York.
