The 8 p.m. start was delayed more than an hour, then the race was red-flagged for almost 90 minutes after 38 laps.
The green flag drops to start a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series auto race, Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, in Bristol, Tenn.
NASCAR fought to dry the track and after a 1:24.04 stoppage, the red flag was lifted and cars were re-fired at 10:42 p.m. The field will return to Bristol on Sunday to complete the final 452 laps of the scheduled 500. That was enough for NASCAR to call it a night at 11:20 p.m. Pole-sitter Carl Edwards had fallen to seventh when the race was stopped a first time.
Busch passed Elliott for the lead on Lap 23, as drivers were able to find speed in both the inside and outside lanes of the.533-mile high-banked concrete short track. He paced the field for 26 laps.
Kyle Busch is leading the race ahead of rookies Chase Elliott and Ryan Blaney.
